The part that never worked
The questions were the easy bit. Everything after them was a mess.
Who verifies the correct answer? Who was actually faster? Did you really say that five minutes ago, or are you just saying it now because you heard someone else say it?
Every round ended in the same discussion. And once you've had that discussion fifty times, it stops being funny. We wanted to compete properly, not argue about who typed something first in a chat nobody was reading carefully.
So we built it
CloserTo is a multiplayer trivia quiz and estimation game. It runs in your browser, so nobody has to install anything or make an account before the fun starts.
The important part is what happens after a question. Answers get locked in, timing is tracked, and there is an actual first place. Not a first place someone claims in voice chat, a real one. Estimation questions work the same way, except you don't need the exact answer, you just need to be closer than everyone else.
That's the whole idea, and it's where the name comes from.
The questions
Every question we collected over the years is in there. We didn't want to launch with generic filler, so the starting set is the stuff we actually played with in our own lobby.
We're still writing new ones, and we keep adding to the platform. New question packs, new modes, small things that make a round feel better.
What's next
CloserTo grew out of a group of friends messing around, and that's still how we treat it. We build what makes our own game nights better, and if it makes yours better too, even better.
